When Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood released on Netflix, the entire internet went into a frenzy swooning over how enriching the series was for all audiences to enjoy. Nonetheless, amongst all the chatter was heartthrob actor Jeremy Pope at the top of it all with his tear-jerking performance.
The breakout role earned Pope his very first Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category. The role, who went by Archie Coleman, was centered around being a Black, gay aspiring screenwriter during the late 1940s who fell in love with a white actor. Already having multiple odds stacked against him, Archie won the most achievable award in the series for his work and also made the world know how much he loved his boyfriend. In a conversation with Vogue, Pope discussed how meaningful the role was to him and handling the meaning of it with care. “I’m very grateful for the recognition from the Television Academy, given Hollywood was my television debut,” Pope tells Vogue. He continued adding, “Hollywood tells the story of a different perspective of our industry. It was an opportunity to rewrite history and give a hopeful take on what could and should be. Although the era of our show was 80 years ago, we are still fighting for equal opportunities and visibility amongst marginalized groups today.”
Having to experience his first Emmy’s nomination in a very different setting than the Los Angeles Microsoft Theatre, as the Awards was hosted virtually this year, he sure did so in impeccable style. He joined many other A-listers in the red carpet at home moment where the celebrities showcased their looks from the comfort of their own homes, matching the ceremony’s “come as you are aesthetic.” Surrounded by love, friends, family, and good fashion, Pope rented a house for his family to celebrate under one roof in his Hometown of Orlando, Florida. While watching live, Pope wore a two-tone brown Louis Vuitton suit in the Fashion house’s signature Damier checkerboard print. He opted out of a classic button-down, and went shirtless with a few stacks of thin gold necklaces and finishing the look with a pair of heeled Christian Louboutin boots; perfectly suited for a Hollywood evening.
