The first Monday in May, better known as the MET gala is an international event for the entire world to enjoy. Most specifically for Fashion lovers, the Gala is structured for everyone from Art lovers to couch critics. Created to support the MET Costume Institue, the event is an all out time, so grand many have nicknamed it the Superbowl of Fashion.
Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus pandemic, all large scale events have been canceled – which includes the 2020 MET Gala. In place of the acclaimed event, Vogue magazine, has created a series of livestream events to honor the day in a way everyone can still be involved. Throughout the day Vogue will be sharing highlights from the MET gala history. Including classic supermodels, astonishing red-carpet moments, and celebrity heartthrobs. In a statement, Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour said: “It would be impossible to recreate the gala on Monday evening, though I have loved hearing how so many are marking the occasion in their own ways,” says Wintour of the day’s programming. “So instead, I asked a few friends to join me for a simple moment—one that I hope will bring us all a bit of joy.”
The special event will wrap up with “A Moment With the Met” which will hold a special celebration on YouTube including a speech by Anna Wintour, and special performances by Florence and the Machine and Virgil Abloh.
