JASON THOTTA/THE BLEAUBOOK
Frank Ocean is known for his melodic tunes and low-key lifestyle, so when he makes any public appearance it’s definitely going to make a splash. The multi-entertainer is expanding beyond music and into the nightlife scene. He announced today via Social Media a new venture under his label, Blonded, that’s jumping into the club life and in an not-so-conventional way. Taking place in New York City, Ocean has created a party dubbed “PrEP+,” which is named behind the HIV preventative drug PrEP.
The night is said to be dedicated to fun that could’ve been available in New York during the ’80s and ’90s had PrEP been around to aid in furthering the health of the LGBTQ+ community. The flyer is a colorful rendition of fun and with a unique font to represent the creativity and energy that flows in this magnificent community. At the bottom of the flyer there’s the word “THE WORLD,” possibly referencing popular nightclub in Manhattan’s East Village sharing the same name that unfortunately closed down in 1991.
In a press release, “PrEP+ is the first in a series of nights; an ongoing safe space made to bring people together and dance. PrEP+ will welcome globally celebrated DJs. PrEP+ welcomes everyone,” going on to state: “House rules: No photos or videos are allowed. Consent is mandatory. Zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism or any form or discrimination. The dance floor is for dancing.” The first party begins tonight at Knockdown Center in Queens, but if you planned on attending and haven’t received your ticket, they’re all sold out.
Cheers to Frank for aiding in raising further awareness of a remarkable advance for the community and the propelling the health of it!
