DAPPER DAN

Unless you’ve been under a rock, I’m sure you’re up to date on another controversy design from Italian Fashion House, Gucci. Gucci joins an extensive list of yet another brand that has been blindly using the African-American race as a to source of ‘prolific inspiration.’ Last week the world went into uproar in result of the bran releasing a turtle in what seems to be mocking blackface as it comes up halfway over the face covering the nose and partially the mouth in replace with a cut-out of big red lips.

Gucci has since issued an apology and taken down the Balaclava Knit Top, but not before it ran rapid amongst Social Media in the midst of Black History Month. Dapper Dan, a Black collaborator with Gucci since a lookalike of one of his designs were seen on the Runway without acknowledgement, has spoke up and recognized the despicable design that not only upset us as consumers. In an Instagram Post, the Legendary Designer made a statement regarding the community insult, stating: “The CEO of Gucci has agreed to come from Italy to Harlem this week to meet with me, along with members of the community and other industry leaders. There cannot be inclusivity without accountability.” Dapper Dan finishes with “I will hold everyone accountable.”

Details of the meeting and whom all will be involved is still developing an we will update as it continues.
