Janet Jackson proved tonight that the name still reigns on! Tonight Jacket blazed the stage at the Billboard Music Awards in honor of her receiving/and being the first black woman to receive the ICON Award. Glittering in Gold and not a single edge of of line from her perfectly sculpted Up/Down do she performed her hit singles “Nasty,” “If,” and “Throb.”
Recognizing her four decades of musical success presented cultivating a legacy for women in Pop to forever reference and acknowledge, you can still see her ground breaking moves and sound influencing many of the artist we adore and love to date. It was when Jackson released a couple of successful albums early in her career, Jackson introduced herself as a formidable force in pop music with her 1986’s Control – making her 1 of 4 to ever have released a Number One album in four different decades and the only artist in history to have released three different albums each liberating five top ten hits.
Janet will be kicking off her State of the World Tour this Summer in July.
